Leadership
Jason Parad, Founder
Jason is a summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Yale University where he received a BS with distinction in the biology and psychology majors. He is the recipient of the William R. Belknap Prize, the Fellows’ Prize, the Yale College Writing Prize, the Yale Student Marshal Award, and the Yale Science & Engineering Association Senior High-Scholarship Award. Jason has conducted public health fieldwork in Malaysia, Mexico, and South Korea with fellowships from the Charles H. Siegel and Paul K. & Evalyn Cook Richter Memorial Funds as well with grants from the Korea Foundation, James Joo-Jin Kim Program in Korean Studies, and Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology. He speaks Spanish and Korean, for which he has also received a Critical Language Scholarship and Alumni Development Grant from the U.S. Department of State, a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship from the U.S. Department of Education, and a Blakemore Freeman Fellowship for Advanced Asian Language Study. Jason holds master's degrees in public health and bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania, where he received the Center for Public Health Initiatives Scholarship, the MPH Scholarship Award, and the Vivian Drenckhahn Scholarship Award. Jason continues his studies in medicine at the UCSF School of Medicine, where he was selected as an Albert Schweitzer Fellow, UC Global Food Initiative Fellow, and Education Science & Curriculum Design Fellow. He also took first place in UC Berkeley's 2017-18 Big Ideas competition and serves as the student representative to the UCSF curricular governance committee.
Oteng Kepatwaemang, Botswana Officer
Oteng is a renowned champion for youth health programming in his native Botswana. He has served as a leading voice in the Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) and as a campaign strategist for the Botswana Defence Force (BDF). He has also leveraged his health leadership skills in roles such as Chairman of the Glen Valley Youth Group in Gaborone and as Event Manager for Botswana Youth Empowerment. Holding a diploma in Public Relations, Marketing, and Advertising, Oteng has further spearheaded our organizational partnerships with the Youth Division of the Botswana Ministry of Health and with the Department of Defense (DoD) HIV/AIDS Prevention Branch of the U.S. Embassy in Botswana. Skilled in photography and videography, Oteng continues his education in journalism and media studies with the goal of advancing nationwide networks for public health communication.
Andy Nguyen, Advisor
Andy graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Stanford University with departmental honors in chemistry. He has served as a community organizer, patient advocate, and education programmer on issues ranging from safe sex promotion to women's health screenings. While his volunteer work has primarily focused on the underprivileged in California, Andy has also spearheaded medical initiatives in Nicaragua and Spain. Furthermore, Andy has been actively involved in health policy reform at the local and national levels, serving as the former chair of the Youth Advisory Commission in Okland and the Stanford in Government Fellow in San Francisco. An emerging scientist in the field of biochemistry, Andy has conducted research in the Straight Lab at Stanford and at the National Institutes of Health. Andy continues his education in medicine at Harvard Medical School and in public policy at Harvard Kennedy School.
